Acne can develop in any part of the body, including the chest, the back, the face, and eventhe area around the eyebrows. Sometimes these pimples hurt so much that you can't stand to pop them. How do you treat acne around the eyebrows? What causes it? Please read the following information:

Causes of acne around the eyebrows

Occasionally, acne may appear on the eyebrows as well. The etiology of eyebrow acne is identical to that of acne in general, whereby the occlusion of pores or hair follicles by residual cosmetics, sebum, debris, and bacteria is the primary causative factor.

According to Byrdie, acne that occurs on the eyebrows is referred to as folliculitis due to its occurrence in hair-bearing areas. Several factors can contribute to the development of acne on the eyebrows:

  • Clogged pores. Acne can be triggered by inadequate cleansing of the face, hair, or hands, followed by sweating and an accumulation of dead skin cells.
  • Oily skin. Acne can result from an accumulation of excess sebum in the hair follicles. The face and forehead are areas that are susceptible to acne due to the abundance of sebaceous glands. This includes the eyebrows.
  • Ingrown hair. Frequently removing or shaving eyebrows may result in ingrown hairs. Because acne can develop when hair follicles get clogged, this condition develops when a portion of the hair that has fallen out grows back into the skin.
  • Cosmetics. Brow gel and other cosmetics used on the area might block pores and lead to acne due to bacteria they contain. Make sure to cleanse the area around your eyebrows completely after applying makeup there to reduce the risk of acne.
  • Diet rich in fats. Frequent consumption of foods that are rich in carbohydrates and fats can elevate the risk of developing acne.
  • Repeatedly touching your face. Touching your face often with dirty hands can also cause acne. To prevent the spread of bacteria, avoid touching your face, especially the nose, lips, and eyebrows.
  • Fluctuations in hormone levels. Hormonal fluctuations are a common cause of acne. Premenstrual, menopausal, hormonal, or pregnancy acne typically manifests before a woman's period, as a side effect of hormonal contraceptives, or just before menopause.

Acne that appears around the eyebrows is a common sign of a number of different health issues. Healthline reports that traditional Chinese medicine associates the region immediately surrounding the eyes with the liver. Problems with the eyebrows and the area surrounding the eyes could be an indication of a liver disease.

The liver is the organ responsible for the elimination of toxins from the body. There is a strong correlation between the occurrence of acne around the eyebrows and the body's reaction to an unhealthy diet. However, as of now, there is no scientific evidence to support this theory.

What are the best treatments for acne around the eyebrows?

The identification of the cause of acne around the eyebrows is the first step to treating this problem. If applying cosmetics is the cause of your acne, you should use comedogenic-free products and totally remove any makeup.

Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinol are examples of commercially available acne treatments. If your acne is moderately inflammatory and requires antibiotics or corticosteroids, you should consult a doctor. During the acne healing time, eat foods low in carbohydrates and fat.

Stress management and breaking the habit of touching your face with unclean hands may help to stop acne from getting worse.

There is no medical evidence to support the association between eyebrow acne and liver health problems; however, this is a common belief. If you are experiencing acne problems in the area surrounding your eyebrows, you can either visit a doctor or make use of the consultation features that are available in the Ai Care application by downloading the Ai Care application from the App Store or Play Store.
